Is your Excuterus holding you back? Cuz mine is! 🙋🏼♀️
Who she is and how to send her back to Planet Excuserus in order to go for your run, make your art, or weird your weird!
The RUNNING Part: The Excuterus
I’ve been at art camp in Santa Fe all week (hosted by The Jealous Curator eeeeek!), and the theme of EXCUSES has come up with every single woman here, so we invented “The Excuterus” also known as Your Inner Critic, Your Bully, Your Mother-in-Law, etc. This annoying alien is from Planet Excuserus and looks uncannily like a uterus (see the fallopian tubes and ovaries? I went there; you’re welcome). Upon her visit, she plagues every single Earthly woman with bombardments of excuses. Conveniently, she typically creeps up behind you juuuuust as you’re about to go for a run, start your art, or do anything meaningful…and seems to be most pervasive for 5-7 days every 28-ish days.
So how do we get rid of this pretty pink monster before we get nibbled to death by ducks? (Thanks, Alexis Mixter!). This is what we learned this week:
Make a list of your excuses. (“I can’t run right now because Bill Clinton, Snacks, & the Jusband need snuggles.”) Sometimes just seeing how dumb they are helps make them easier to move past.
Picture your excuses simply as The Excuterus...& flick her away. She becomes a lot less invasive when you realize she’s just a hypercreative superfreak that transforms herself into a uterus with her thrift store finds.
Write your “positive opposite” to the bullshit the Excuterus says to you. My negative thought: “So-&-so already does this art/race and they do it better than me, so why bother trying?” My positive opposite: “No one else exists like me. It’s impossible for anyone else to do my voice better. I’m a fucking Queen of Me Mountain!”
Read Your Inner Critic is a Big Jerk by Danielle Krysa and remember you’re not alone. 🫶
The FUNNING Part: W.O.W.! Weirdo(s) of the Week
This was a no-brainer. This week, I’m celebrating the weirdest weirdos in all the land: my shero artists from art camp! There was laughing, crying, “what-the-hecking”, and creativity galore. Thank you Danielle, Alexis and Jen Tough Gallery for an incredible week!
